Desk of Omega Military Construct





When you wander around in the forum, you will see something along the lines of "OMC" or "Omega Military Construct." Well, WTF is it?

Well, it is Tiberiam-made term that we agreed on during the previous RP generation to use as a terminology for awesome stuff... well, awesome military stuff.

So here's a gist of what OMC really is.

  • It is weapon or vehicle with military origin
  • The OMCs have somewhat of a high developmental cost as well as having a lengthy developmental time.
  • The OMCs are usually terrifying and is highest technology that modern science could produce.



Now, OMCs play a unique part of Tiberiam's War RPs:
They can make or break a battle

They are basically weapons or vehicles that can determine how much military power you have in the battlefield. A few OMCs into the fray and we can see a victory from a mil away.

With that explain, there are certain things that must be covered: WHAT are OMCs, HOW can countries obtain OMCs, HOW can countries make or develop OMCs, and WHAT are the restrictions of OMCs.




[[Tiberiam's Rules concerning OMCs]]

As you have noticed, Tiberiam handles our OMCs (our self-developed name ^^) rather seriously. So here's a few things to keep in mind if you want to use OMCs.

  • OMCs in a battlefield can make a break the battle using simple formula of values.
  • Each OMCs are given an OMC value (OMC-val) that is used to indicate the power of these weapons as well as developmental costs.
  • OMCs require a developmental or purchase ROLEPLAY to acquire. This means that no one can simply poof up OMCs out of nowhere.
  • Numbers of OMCs, to be effective, MUST be recorded in the Database of a nation. Otherwise all the purchase, development, and production is null and void.
  • Economic conditions must be met to produce and maintain OMCs. This can be found in [Desk of Credit Control]
  • The Steward of Culture (SoC) reserves all rights to assign ANY militarized weapons or vehicles an OMC status and its appropriate OMC-val. SoC also reserves all rights to determine individual country's developmental time that will take to develop OMCs.




[[The OMC-val]]

The OMC val is a number ranging from 1 to 10, with 1 being a minor gamechanger to 10 being a Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). Some weapons (especially in the futuristic RPs... should they be created in the future) might surpass this rating, and could receive values over 10, such as 11 and 12. Of course, it is to be assumed that value higher than 10 probably could end worlds, and best left alone in the first place. Razz



[[How to obtain OMCs]]

As mentioned before in the rules section, there are only two ways to obtain OMCs: purchasing it or developing it.

Of course, BOTH METHODS MUST BE DONE IN IC ROLEPLAY. As in... you cannot SAY that you purchased OMCs out of nowhere, and you cannot say that you have developed the OMCs without anyone noticing. You have to use either Domestic or International thread to interact with other players to produce these weapons. Also keep in mind that no one likes to have neighbors with OMCs. And they are entitled to distract your country from obtaining this weapon regardless of cost. Think of it like nuclear weapons. America will steamroll any country that wishes to develop them, yes? Well... at least they will stop trading with them. You MUST interact with all of the distractions. This is mandatory... even if your country doesn't care, YOU MUST RP ABOUT THAT.

Even after obtaining them, there is problem with numbers. Do keep in mind that whenever you want to increase the number of OMCs, you have to RP a post about your country making or purchasing them.

Of course, there are some OMCs that will not survive the war. It is up to you to decide how many dies and how many survives... but please be reasonable about that.

Super-sonic aircraft became practical in the 1960s. Unsurprisingly, it is now common among every mass-produced fighter plane designed after 1970. That includes the HESS's default fighter, the Sukhoi SU-35.

I think this belongs in the category of the aircraft carrier and nukes: powerful weapons anyone can make with a shadow of a MIC.

Hmmm...

You may be right. However, I was already the one to imagine that supercruise capability is hard to come by. Sure you can have supersonic speed, but immediately enter supersonic using supercruise will be hard to do, right?


And Civa, there are plenty of chances for you to catch up in the arms race. If you can see... the board is mainly hogged by Oscal and Ras... two of the most militaristic minds in Tiberiam. If you need to, mooch off of one of them or create your own. Nothing (maybe besides those who think you are threatening) will stop you from making you very own OMC ^^


Oh and E... some subs are still diesel, making them bulky and hard to use. Most countries still have that. However, I may need to adjust OMC-val for nuclear subs... although I still say that nuclear subs should be researched.

I'm still debating whether or not to have a military. I most likely will, but I've always been lazy when it comes to military stuff. We'll just have to wait and see. . . after all I can't let the two of you have all the fun.

If you choose not to have a military, Rasvidi might be willing to work out some kind of deal to take over the duties of Civa-Orchestra's defence. Basically, we'd protect your nation from attack in exchange for, say, tariff-free oil?

I think that could work. Not having a military gives a bit a depth to the overall role play. Also, it might go even as far as giving Civan youth the option to enlist in the Rasvidi Armed Forces.

Lol... it is influence thing. It isn't like Ras and Oscal don't see eye to eye on certain issues, and we are both quite right. It is probably just an ego problem with two of us ^^

But should someone like... let's say Isis... or some other great power rolls into Tiberiam, probably Oscal and Ras will form an alliance to resist that new power.

Yeah it's more keeping the playing field even, or gaining the upper hand. If Oscalantine spreads influence too much, it could become virtually unstoppable. So, Rasvidi thinks it's in the best interests of the international community to act as a counterweight to any growing influence.

Wow. Even though Ras is absurdly militaristic, it leads the worlds is freedoms, especially those of a narcotic nature.

I could RP a communist utopia, but it's more fun to RP a communist big brother state. Besides, socialism has some fierce enemies at the moment; clearly freedoms must be axed. Twisted Evil

Something that I have noticed...

There are several OMCs that... really doesn't act as gamechanger. Two of them caught my attention as I have been going over my military numbers.


1) UCVs
I know it is dangerously powerful. However, they depend on swarms. You almost NEED to have them swarming in 100's (Oscal does that...) and at the same time, they act similar to soldiers minus the human variant. I have currently put lowest OMC rating (where people have to define how many "Swarms" that they should have) but it seems a bit more harmless than most OMCs...

2) nuclear subs
This is more pressing and unsolved matter. Currently, nuclear submarines have OMC rating. However, in modern era, most military-minded countries have switched almost ENTIRELY to nuclear submarines. I haven't noticed this until now (I mean... I knew it, but I still went along with it... foolish of me ^^Wink. Diesel is only for... less military powers.


So what should we do about these? Still give OMC rating? What other OMCs do you feel like it isn't an OMC? I wanted to know some opinions on this.

Biological and chemical weaponry is definitely a game-changer, but its power varies widely. There's a huge difference between Rasvidi utilizing a cartridge of mustard gas on a battlefield and Rasvidi releasing an End of Days pandemic upon the world. I think the OMC value of these weapons is a lot more circumstantial than that of an aircraft carrier or a nuke.

Chemical weapons... well, I think it deserved this OMC-val. Mainly because regardless of where it is released and in what value, it causes severe chaos in the region. Its even mentioning would probably cause change in the world.

If anything, yes, I agree that pandemic bomb should have its OMC-val increased to OMC-val 11 or 12, since it could cause end of the world. However, tailored viruses is still on the theory phase, and no one should have the weapon yet to begin with, so I will consider that once I see a news that biologically altered disease can spread to the world.
