Hello everyone, looking forward to joining another RP community after my last home, ConventionStates, died. Been off and on NS for 5 years. RPing this nation for last year and a half. Much as I'd love to keep talking about myself I believe the purpose of this thread is numbers...

Active Duty 175,980,0006%
Reserve Force 703,020,000 24%
Clarification: My service numbers are abnormal because of a 3 year mandatory military service term for all citizens. To find the numbers I did I looked at population pyramids and found a size (relationship-wise to the rest of the region), economic, and political counterpart in real life to compare percentages with. Namely, Switzerland.

Switzerland's population pyramid, accessible here (just kidding, apparently I'm not allowed to post links till 7 days after account creation) shows that around 5.81% of Switzerland's population is between the ages of 20-24. Given that Fideliara has 3 years of mandatory service for all citizens around this age group timeframe, and accounting for "lifers" and those who extend their time in the service, I decided to use 6% if my population as active military (opposed to the 3-5% recommended).

Additionally, the data shows that roughly 48.97% of their population rests between the ages of 16 and 50. Accounting for health degradation, vital civilian-sector jobs, expectant/new mothers, blah blah blah, I decided to use 30% as a reserve number but 36% total military force sounded stupid, so I just used 30% for total force and split active duty out of that number, leaving 24% of population in the "reserves."

I hope that makes sense. I think the numbers are reasonable given the mandatory combat training involved with the Fideliaran compulsory service (essentially: "every civilian a rifleman"). If you all aren't ok with this let me know and I'll change the numbers.

Also: Fideliara (name), Fidel (Monetary Unit/also works as name), Fidelian (possesive/citizen)
Presiding Monarch: King Alexander II

So... 30% of your population is in reserves? As in once your homeland is attacked, 30% of your population transforms into a militarymen ready to defend the country?

I don't see wrong with that in a way. However, I got to wonder about production. When you get a database, you should state how that works. During wartime, you will need to make massive production of supplies. And as far as I am concerned... ages between 20 to 50 is the most productive age level in humans... and they are the prime employeed age as well. So you would have to explain how that fits into the system.

Hmmm... I suppose I should explain this as well... Tiberiam's system, if you remember... is that "You do whatever you want, but SoC will do whatever he/she wants." So there is some kind of unspoken rule... if you don't want SoC to f*up your country, then justify it so that he/she cannot do so. If you make it so that you are able to convince me that you can sustain your production despite having folks in 16 to 50 on the battlefields, then I won't make your credit rating so low that you HAVE to surrender as a country (although feel free to rebel as a freedom-fighters) because you cannot fund your country.

Right, so again I'll clarify what I mean by reserves. That 30% number is the maximum percentage of the population capable of bearing arms and directly supporting combat mission(s). Essentially the "shit-hits-the-fan" number. I don't plan on every mobilizing that force.

In an extreme emergency (a war of annihilation) most nations can, at best, only mobilize (via a draft) a percentage of the population ranging from manhood to late 40's. And even then, only for men, most of which never served and would be poorly trained and disciplined. Fideliara combat trains all men and women for 3 years of their life. accounting for the ability to mobilize 60% of our 16-50 age range were annihilation the alternative seems reasonable to me in a situation where production was irrelevant and all that mattered was food, shelter, and bullet stockpiles.

Also I should note that given the scope and focus of the Fidelian military system, "mobilized" may just mean dressing in uniform and working at the military factory down the street as opposed to the civilian one you normally work at. The compulsory service combined with the lack of international troop placement leaves a lot of manhours spent learning technical skills, doing humanitarian work, and producing military products. The military is more than capable of sustaining its base needs during war through government-owned factories though, obviously this would come as a huge hit to the private sector.

But again, never will you see me mobilize or claim to mobilize that number for combat reasons, its just the size of the pool I am assuming I can draw reserves from. Realistically I think at most I would (in times of emergency) double my active military force, which would bring me in at 12% of the population as a practical military force total.

Acknowledging the costs involved, does that number ( being prepared to use 1/4 of my reserve force) make sense? I see the military as similar to Post WWI Germany wherein most of my "active duty" force is officer corps. When the military needs to mobilize I bring in my reserves as enlisted personnel.

Assuming a mobilized force of 12% with a home-defense deployment, what would you say (as a rough estimate) is the maximum engagement time before economic collapse?

And like during the world wars, war socialism will organize your economy and make sure your economy's cogs keep turning.

Exactly Lenyo. It's a benefit of having a semi-fascist, military honor culture.

I said this in ConvetionStates, though not here in Tiberium yet, the military is a big part of Fideliara's culture. In that military simulation games (airsoft, paintball, waterguns (for young children)) and military-based entertainment (books, movies, TV shows, videogames) are a large industry.

Despite not being well equipped, few countries have better trained troops than Fideliara. However, the numbers and training would be more threatening if the troops could actually do anything. But most of our infantry weapons are hand-me-down second gen surplus from neighboring countries. While the rest of you have well funded armies with armor/artillery/ airborne infantry/ballistic armor/etc., Fideliara just has 12% of it's population capable of picking up an AK-47 and RPGs for a few weeks at a time. While up to 18% can additionally be told to convert production means for military uses.

I see. You convinced me on that part. However, you will have to put this on database once you get one so that it can be justified to everyone, not just to Lenyo and me.
